Walmart Beat Expectations, Raises Guidance to be Closer to Estimates

Walmart (WMT) reported earnings of $0.81 per share on revenue of $187.94 billion for the fiscal second quarter ended July 2026. The consensus earnings estimate was $0.73 per share on revenue of $186.32 billion. The Earnings Whisper number was $0.75 per share. The company beat expectations by 8.00% while revenue grew 5.94% on a year-over-year basis.

The company said it expects third quarter earnings of $0.62 to $0.64 per share on revenue of $183.13 billion to $184.47 billion. The current consensus earnings estimate is $0.68 per share on revenue of $187.59 billion for the quarter ending October 31, 2026. The company also said it now expects fiscal year earnings of $2.80 to $2.87 per share on revenue of $734.66 billion to $741.72 billion. The company's previous guidance was earnings of $2.75 to $2.85 per share on revenue of $731.12 billion to $738.19 billion, and the current consensus earnings estimate is $2.88 per share on revenue of $750.17 billion for the year ending January 31, 2027.

Second Quarter Highlights:

  • Revenue of $187.9 billion, up 5.9%, or 5.1% (cc)
  • Global eCommerce sales grew 23%, led by store-fulfilled pickup & delivery and marketplace
  • Global advertising business up 38%, with strength across segments. Walmart U.S. advertising up 38%
  • Membership fee revenue grew 17% globally
  • Gross profit rate up 96 bps, led by Walmart U.S., primarily impacted by tariff refund impacts noted below
  • Operating income up $2.1 billion, or 28.8% up 17.4% adjusted (cc); which includes the impact of tariff refunds received, partially offset by price investments in the quarter. Setting aside this net impact, underlying operating income growth was at the top end of our guidance. Our outlook reflects the continued prioritization of remaining tariff refunds into price investments
